Background – Green Citroën 5HP of Thomson and Thompson (Tintin and the Land of Black Gold)

The background of this 1/12 scale model refers to the opening scene of the album Tintin and the Land of Black Gold. Thomson and Thompson are driving their iconic green Citroën 5HP when they stop at a petrol station to fill up with “half a gallon” of fuel.

Moments later, as they drive off cheerfully, the engine starts to splutter and cough. Suddenly, there’s a loud explosion – the car blows up, leaving only smoke and confusion behind.

This scene marks the beginning of the mystery in Land of Black Gold, where Tintin investigates the cause of cars spontaneously exploding. The model perfectly captures the humor, chaos, and clumsy misfortunes of the two bumbling detectives, always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
