Description

Tristan and Isolde - Salvador Dalí Collection Figurine -  Parastone - 9 cm

Design for the ballet Mad Tristan, written by Dalí, inspired by Richard Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde. (1944)

Salvador Dali (1904-1989) Dali sublimated his life in his paintings. Based on great craftsmanship, gained through all kinds of artistic experiments, he elevated surrealism to unprecedented heights in his own inimitable, idiosyncratic way. He photographed, as it were, associatively what was going on inside his head. Inspired by new insights in psychology at the time, he tried to capture his subconscious in images and visualize his dreams in all their inscrutable symbolism. To this end, he developed his famous “paranoiac-critical method.” For us, one-dimensional mortals, only the paintings and other art forms remain as fascinating witnesses to a literally incredible, intense, and industrious life. Perhaps they appeal to us so much because they not only give us a glimpse into Dali's subconscious but also form a mirror of our own soul.

Attributes: The two figures in the scene evoke a sense of longing, tension, and transformation. On the left, a figure is seated, its body fragmented or melting into the base, with a delicate flower-like object on its head, suggesting fragility and vulnerability. The figure on the right is more ethereal, wearing a flowing blue garment, with a cracked and decayed face, its body seemingly suspended in the act of reaching out or attempting to communicate. The pose and the cracked, unfinished details lend a sense of existential reflection, mirroring themes of longing, loss, and the passage of time.
