Description

Hergé, Tintin and the Americans – Philippe Goddin – Tintin book – English edition.

In Hergé, Tintin and the Americans, Tintin expert Philippe Goddin – also known for Hergé, Tintin et les Soviets and Les Tribulations de Tintin au Congo – takes readers on a fascinating journey into Hergé’s creative process. Goddin follows the author step by step, shedding light on how the story was adapted for publication in a Flemish daily newspaper.

A highlight of this edition is the collection of never-before-published, deeply personal letters Hergé wrote during his two major trips to the United States. In these letters, he describes his search for Native American culture and his strong wish to defend the people he admired so much.

After sending Tintin to the Soviet Union and Congo, Hergé dispatches his young reporter to the land of Uncle Sam, where he is awaited like a saviour.

Philippe Goddin knew Hergé personally and served for ten years as the secretary-general of the Hergé Foundation. He later contributed to the design of the Hergé Museum. As Hergé’s biographer (Hergé – Lignes de Vie, 2007) and president of the association Les Amis de Hergé, Goddin authored numerous works on the creator, including the seven-volume series Hergé – Chronologie d’une œuvre.
