Dance Movements – Mouvements de danse – Auguste Rodin Collectible Statue – Parastone - 23 cm

(1910–1911)

In his later years, Rodin’s work became increasingly sketchy and abstract. Dance served as a major source of inspiration. He sought to capture the essence of the movements and was not concerned with anatomical details. Unlike Degas, Rodin did not care for classical ballet. He preferred the spontaneous and natural movements of the modern dance forms of the time. When the famous dancer Isadora Duncan opened a school for modern dance near his studio, Rodin seized the opportunity to spend days sketching the students’ movements. Alda Moreno, a dancer at the Opéra Comique, likely served as the model for the series Mouvements de danse.

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917-France) Between Romanticism and Impressionism, this idiosyncratic Frenchman created some of the most famous pieces of sculpture.
