The Great Wave off Kanagawa Mug - Katsushika Hokusai Collection - Parastone - 11 cm / Ø 6 cm

This mug features a design inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s painting The Great Wave off Kanagawa. It is the perfect companion for your daily cup of coffee or tea, adding an artistic touch to your kitchen.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa, approx. 1829-1833. The famous woodcut of the great wave with Mount Fuji in the background was the first in the renowned series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji from the late Edo period. The huge wave threatens to engulf two ships off the coast of Kanagawa prefecture (directly south of Tokyo).

  • Mug: Height: 11 cm. / Ø 6 cm.
  • Gift packed with brochure

Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) is among the most famous, innovative, and prolific ukiyo-e artists, having produced over 30,000 designs. At a young age, he learned the fundamentals of woodblock carving before joining the renowned Katsukawa Shunshō studio at age 19. After 13 years, the determined Hokusai left the studio following a disagreement. Traveling restlessly, he changed his art name many times, eventually adopting the name Hokusai around the age of forty. It was not until he was in his sixties, however, that he created his most iconic works.
