Description

Le Chat Noir - Rodolphe Salis Collection Statue - Pocket Art - Parastone - 11 cm

The famous poster for the legendary cabaret on Paris' Montmartre Hill, created by Théophile Steinlen in 1896 for Rodolphe Salis’ Le Chat Noir.

Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen (1859-1923). Steinlen stopped taking philosophy at the university in his home town of Lausanne prematurely to start working in Mulhouse as a textile designer. The socially committed, kind-hearted artist left for Paris in 1881 , where they moved to the hill of Montmartre. In the early nineties, Steinlen still painted traditional subjects such as landscapes, flower still lives and nudes. Later work increasingly displayed social-realist tendencies. Steinlen became a sought after illustrator for legendary magazines such as Le Rire and Gil Bas.

Art in pocket format: the most famous works in the history of art in miniature size (8-10 cm), beautifully packed in a special gift box, including a small brochure about the artist.
