The Venus of Brassempouy - Art Vénus Collection Statue - Pocket Art - Parastone - 10 cm

The Venus of Brassempouy (21 000 – 23 000 B.C.). This ivory head from the late Paleolithic is the oldest known, realistic depiction of a face. The fragment was found in 1892 in a cave near the French hamlet of Brassempouy.

Art in pocket format: the most famous works in the history of art in miniature size (8-10 cm), beautifully packed in a special gift box, including a small brochure about the artist.

Art Vénus: “Venus's figurines” is a collective term for prehistoric female figurines ever since the Marquis de Vibraye named a prehistoric nude female figurine a ‘Venus impudique’ (an indecent Venus), which is a pun on the Roman Venus Pudica. The true meaning of the Venus figurines is unknown. It is likely that, in the hunter and collector society of those days, their corpulence stood for prosperity and fertility.
