Praying Hands Paperweight - Albrecht Dürer Art Collection - Parastone - 8 x 3,5 cm

Praying Hands (Betende Hände), an iconic c. 1508 pen-and-ink drawing on blue grounded paper by German Renaissance master Albrecht Dürer. Originally created as a preparatory sketch for an apostle figure in the altarpiece Heller Altarpiece, the artwork showcases two male hands pressed together in devotion, famous for its intricate anatomical shading, delicate highlights, and expressive lines depicting aged skin and rolled sleeves against a cool blue backdrop.

Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) As the son of a Nuremberg goldsmith, Dürer had mastered art and craft techniques at an early age. In 1490 the young artist set out on a long journey. He stayed in Basel and carried out book illustration assignments and mastered the techniques of copper engraving and etching. Upon his return he set up his own atelier. His death in 1528 marked the end of a very productive life during which he was acknowledged as the greatest German artist of his time.
