The Kiss - Auguste Rodin Collection Figurine -  Parastone - 14 cm

Like The Thinker, The Kiss is also derived from The Gates of Hell, Rodin's magnum opus. It is originally based on the characters Paolo and Francesca from Dante's Inferno, who are condemned to hell for eternity because they kissed after Francesca married Paolo's brother. The final sculpture of The Kiss gives a different impression, not one of despair but of happiness and uninhibited love. The sculpture is very sensual but exudes a certain loveliness. The Kiss was submitted by the French government in 1893 to participate in the World Columbian Fair in Chicago, but the American authorities considered the sculpture too risqué for public display. It was placed in a private room that was only accessible with special permission. Perhaps because of the mysterious atmosphere, the exhibition was a great success and The Kiss has remained one of Rodin's most popular works to this day.

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917-France) Between Romanticism and Impressionism, this idiosyncratic Frenchman created some of the most famous pieces in sculpture.

Attributes: white sculpture of two nude human figures intertwined in an intimate embrace, seated together on a textured, rock-like base. One figure sits upright while the other leans closely into them, arms wrapped around the partner’s shoulders and torso, creating a fluid, continuous silhouette. Their legs overlap naturally, and the sculpted anatomy is soft yet detailed, emphasizing the closeness and emotional connection between them.
