Description

Hergé, Le Feuilleton Intégral: 1938-1940 (8) - Tintin book - French Edition - Hard Cover - Moulinsart / Casterman - 465 pages

At the beginning, Tintin was a serial. The albums only came later and were never planned at all,” Hergé once explained. This collection presents those original serialized versions of The Adventures of Tintin, as well as Quick and Flupke and Jo and Zette. For the first time, readers can discover the complete comics by Hergé exactly as they were published in Le Petit Vingtième, Coeurs Vaillants, Le Soir, and Tintin magazine, along with all related graphic material (covers, title banners, illustrations, etc.).

Three illustrated afterwords, enriched with many previously unpublished documents, provide further insight: Benoît Peeters explores Hergé’s life and work; Jean-Marie Embs examines the sources and historical context of each adventure; and Philippe Mellot presents Hergé’s day-to-day activities and publications. Covering the comics published in the press between April 1925 and April 1976, the 12 volumes of The Complete Serialized Stories are intended for all enthusiasts of Hergé’s work.

This eighth volume of The Complete Serialized Stories includes the Le Petit Vingtième version of King Ottokar’s Sceptre, along with new Exploits of Quick and Flupke and a wealth of rare covers and documents. It also features the beginning of Jo, Zette and Jocko in the Land of the Maharajah as it appeared in Coeurs Vaillants, the beautiful advertising strips for Drops candies, and several gags featuring the inimitable Monsieur Bellum, an early resistance figure.

Despite an increasingly dark international climate, Hergé continued to work at an incredibly sustained pace. However, the war, which began on September 1, 1939, immediately disrupted the creation of the new Tintin adventure, Land of Black Gold. On May 10, 1940, the entry of German troops into Belgium brought an end to the publication of Le Petit Vingtième.
