The crouching Woman – Auguste Rodin Collectible Statue – Parastone - 12 cm

The crouching Woman (1880-1882). Like ‘The Thinker’ and many other well-known sculptures the ‘Crouching Woman’ is based on a figure from the tympan of the Gates of Hell, a bronze portal meant for the Musée des Arts Décoratifs which was never finished. There she represents, with her caryatid-like pose, powerful and vulnerable at the same time, one of the lost souls.

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917-France) Between Romanticism and Impressionism, this idiosyncratic Frenchman created some of the most famous pieces of sculpture.

Attributes: sculpture of a woman crouched upon a textured, rock-like base. Her body is tightly curled, with one arm resting across her lap and the other hand placed near her chest, while her head is tilted downward and slightly to the side.
