Christ and Mary Magdalene - Auguste Rodin Collection Figurine -  Parastone - 17,5 cm

In this three-and-a-half-metre marble sculpture, a dying man, nailed to the rock, is mourned by a naked woman kneeling before him. Rodin also called it Prometheus and the Oceanode and The Genius and Pity.

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917-France) Between Romanticism and Impressionism, this idiosyncratic Frenchman created some of the most famous pieces in sculpture.

Attributes: sculpture of a rough, rock-like base and upper mass with an irregular, textured surface, from which a small, smooth human figure emerges; the figure appears bent forward, bracing or lifting an overhanging stone slab above its shoulders, creating a strong contrast between the refined, anatomical treatment of the body and the raw, unfinished stone surrounding it.
