Deer - Greco - Roman Art Collection Figurine -  Parastone - 9 cm

From the end of the fourth century onwards, Greek sculpture developed in various directions. Form and style changed rapidly in different places and times. For the first time, sculptures also took on a purely decorative function, without religious references or characteristics. Small decorative figurines became popular among the upper classes. This magnificent deer was found on the island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea, known in the Odyssey as the green island of the Phaeacians. The Greek name of the island, Kokyra, refers to the beautiful nymph who was abducted by Poseidon and imprisoned on the island.

Attributes: bronze sculpture of a deer or young stag in a walking pose, with its head extended forward, ears alert, and one front leg raised mid-step. The figure is mounted on a rectangular base and has a smooth yet textured surface that reflects light, highlighting the animal’s muscular form and natural proportions.
